Our lab bill felt high this quarter. Are we out of line?
S Sidekick

A little, but nothing alarming. Lab fees ran 7.9% of collections over the last three months. Among general practices in your peer group, the middle half sits between 6.1% and 7.4% — so you're roughly a point and a half above the top of that range, or about $2,100 a month at your current collections.

Two things worth checking before you change anything: did crown volume go up? If so, that's production, not waste. And are any lab invoices from last quarter being paid late? Timing can inflate a single quarter.

Want me to pull lab fees by month alongside crown & bridge production?

What it does

A second set of eyes on your financials — one that knows dentistry.

Most practice owners get a P&L once a month and a gut feeling about whether it's good. Sidekick turns that into a conversation.

Benchmarks against real peers

Overhead, payroll, lab, supplies, rent, marketing — compared with a cohort of real dental practices we actually work with, not a national average from a brochure. Segmented by practice type.

Answers in plain English

Ask the question you'd ask your CFO: "Is my hygiene payroll too high?" You get a straight answer, the numbers behind it, and where they came from. Every figure is sourced — no mystery stats.

Built from the CFO's chair

We've spent years coaching dental practices through their numbers. Sidekick is trained on how we actually explain things on client calls — encouraging, specific, and focused on what to do next.

Lab fees crept up for the third month in a row7.9% of collections vs. 6.8% peer median. Crown & bridge production rose too, so some of this is good news — but the ratio is still drifting. Worth a look at the lab's pricing on the last three invoices.

Collections ratio held at 97.2%Above the peer median for the fifth straight month. Nothing to do here — just nice work by the front office.

How early access works

Join the list now, help shape it as we build.

1

Join the list

Takes thirty seconds. We'll send an occasional update as we build — and we'd rather hear from you than talk at you, so expect a question or two about what you'd actually use.

2

We invite practices in small groups

Early access opens a handful of practices at a time so we can give each one real attention. People on this list hear first, in the order they signed up.

3

Your feedback shapes the product

Early members get a direct line to the team building it. If Sidekick doesn't answer the question the way you'd want your CFO to, we want to know.
