He was a top-producing advisor and Managing Director for Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Co. He founded CFO Dental Partners in 2015 after seeing a growing need among dental practices for long-term business support. One thing that Daniel loves about working with dental practices is the amount of stress relief it provides to the practice owner. You can almost visibly see the weight being lifted off their shoulders! To him, it is an honor to work with so many hard-working professionals and help them see more success. Daniel and his wife, Lynlee, live in Meridian, ID with their five children. Outside of work, Daniel's life is very busy with his kids' sports activities, dance recitals, and tons of outdoor fun. He also loves to golf, run, and is a big-time foodie. (did you miss the [**donut page**](/doughnuts)?) Jade loves what he does! He has 25 years of corporate finance experience and has held roles that include acquisitions analyst, portfolio manager, VP Finance, Restructuring Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. His experience ranges from multi-billion dollar international companies to small startups. Without question, his preference is to work in smaller companies where a significant impact can be made. He has experience in strategic planning, financial reporting, operating budgets, cash management and controls, general management and fundraising. Jade’s experience includes time in various industries including dental, software, real estate management, consumer retail, private equity, e-commerce and golf courses/resorts. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance at Boise State University where he loves watching his Broncos on the blue turf, and a master’s degree in business administration at Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management. Jade coaches high school rugby and his teams have won a national championship and several state championships. If you ever want to know about rugby, just let him know – he’s always glad to talk about it! He enjoys the outdoors with his wife and kids (both of whom are now grown and gone from home), and also enjoys firearms training. Jeremy has worked in Controller/CFO positions in various industries from Top-rated golf courses to large car wash enterprises. He enjoys getting to know people through work and building relationships that make work more enjoyable. He loves working with companies and individuals that have a vision and are growth minded. He has experience in Budgeting/Forecasting, Cash Flow Management, Team Management and feels like he can have his biggest impact helping small businesses grow. Jeremy met his wife Autumn in 1996 and they were married in November 2001. Together they have three kids. Mackenzie (21), Cole (19), Adelyn (16). He has lived in St George, Utah for the last 13 years. He loves sports and has played most of them throughout his life but now spends most evenings with his family enjoying Pickleball, Golf and Bowling. Jeremy has bowled 7 perfect games but is still chasing that elusive hole in one on the golf course. Katrina joined CFO Dental Partners in 2022, leveraging over 12 years of dental experience and a keen attention to detail. After many years working on the clinical side of dentistry, she made the transition to the administrative side where she effectively managed offices of different sizes and played a key role in launching a scratch practice. Her enthusiasm for embracing challenges and new projects significantly enhances her contributions to the team. Born and raised in Colorado, Katrina enjoys the beauty of the outdoors while spending any free time with her husband Don and two sons. When Katrina’s not watching one of her boys’ many activities, she enjoys reading, hiking and crafting. Ashlie comes to CFO Dental Partners with over 25 years of administrative and office management experience. This experience has given her the opportunity to learn all sides of the business including billing, payroll, bookkeeping etc. She has worked in multiple industries from Family Law to Construction.  Ashlie grew up with parents who ran a small Concrete Construction business, so she learned quickly how hard small business owner’s work. She has a passion for being organized, solving problems, and helping business owners achieve their goals and minimize their stress.  When Ashlie is not working, she can be found with her husband Eric hiking in beautiful Idaho where they live. Ashlie enjoys playing and watching sports at all levels. She has 5 sons and 2 granddaughters that she also loves to spend time with. Tianna joins CFO Dental with over a decade of accounting and bookkeeping experience. Since earning her bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2013, she has worked as a staff accountant and bookkeeper for multiple CPA firms. Tianna has worked with numerous small businesses, ranging from grocery stores and restaurants to engineering companies and doctor offices. She enjoys making the numbers make sense and ensuring that the books are accurate. Beyond the numbers, she finds joy in rock climbing, movie theatres, and creating precious moments with her husband and two daughters in their Meridian, ID home. Tianna brings not just expertise in bookkeeping, but a well-rounded passion for life to every endeavor. Carolyn joins CFO Dental Partners with 8 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience. She has worked as a staff accountant and bookkeeper for multiple industries. Most recently, Carolyn worked for Intuit. Her work there included working with numerous small businesses across varying industries ranging from law firms to e-commerce.  Carolyn is excited to work directly with dental practices and help to provide the operational support they need to thrive. She is always up for a challenge and enjoys helping all small businesses better understand their financials and growth opportunities. When not working, Carolyn enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She also enjoys traveling and outdoor activities and even coaches a young soccer team. Heather came to CFO Dental Partners with 16 years of bookkeeping experience. She has worked with multiple industries over the years, but her favorite has always been dental practices. Heather loves helping business owners understand their business financials and watching them grow their business with their new understanding of how all the numbers align. Heather has been married to her husband Paul for 17 years and has two daughters, Peyton and Brittany, and one grandson, JC. She loves spending time with her family and watching Tennessee Volunteers football. Go Vols! With over 20 years of experience in bookkeeping, Ashley has developed a comprehensive expertise in financial management. Her background includes serving as a bookkeeper and customer support specialist for QuickBooks Online, where she honed skills in sales tax reconciliations, payroll processing, and payroll tax preparation. Ashley’s passionate about empowering small business startups and driving business development through precise financial management. Leveraging knowledge of diverse industries, Ashley provides tailored accounting solutions that foster growth and success. Beyond numbers, Ashley enjoys exploring the outdoors and reeling in fish whenever the weather permits. An avid mystery enthusiast, Ashley unwinds with detective novels and shows. This balance of professional expertise and personal pursuits fuels her enthusiasm for life. Kaycee Chamberlain joined CFO Dental Partners in 2024. She brings a wealth of experience in the dental industry, having dedicated her career to various roles since graduating high school. She began her journey by cleaning dental offices and quickly advanced to become the Lead Surgical Coordinator for a multimillion-dollar pediatric dental practice in Idaho. Following this, Kaycee served as a Senior Marketing Director for a dental practice in Bozeman, where she honed her leadership and creative skills. Kaycee has her certificate in UX/UI Design and advanced certifications as a Microsoft Associate. She was born in Bozeman, MT, but grew up in the town of Round Rock, TX. In 2013, she moved to Boise, Idaho, where she eventually met the love of her life, Gabriel. They met in 2017 and got married in 2023. They rescued a 2 year old Cowboy Corgi named Mozzie. Known for her can-do attitude and exceptional organizational abilities, Kaycee is passionate about supporting her team and ensuring operational excellence. She is also a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan and a long time- die hard Longhorns fan (Hook em!). Outside of work, she enjoys taking firearm safety classes, going to the range, painting, and exploring digital art, reflecting her diverse interests and creative spirit. Alberston’s - **Meridian, ID** Breakfast of Champions at Top Pot Donuts - **Seattle, WA** Randy's Donuts - Practically an LA icon, this was an incredible donut. Easily a top 5! The Oprah Doughsant(croissant donut), Legendary Doughnuts - **Tacoma, WA** The Dirty O.G. — Donut + Dog, **Nashville, TN** and **Meridian, ID** Classic raised glazed, unbelievably good! Top 5 for sure: Sandy’s — **Grand Rapids, MI** A fun assortment, a present from Tammy on her first day! Such a great start :-) Dapper Doughnut — **Boise, ID** A pair of half-eaten beauties: Rose Donuts — **San Diego, CA** **Donut Nook, Vancouver, WA** - great flavor, but not enough fluff! "An unexpected top ten entry… delicious flavor in this raised glaze. Also a fun name and concept for their chocolate cake donut." The chocolate doussant...no glazed donuts so I had to improvise! Vosen's - **Salt Lake City, UT** An impressive spread at this local franchise. Can't argue with the quality or the creativity! But not raised, only cake :-( This was a very impressive donut, especially the locally picked meyer lemon glaze (Oliboli Donuts - **Tustin, CA**) This quest wouldn't be complete without a stop here. Good, but not the best. **Beiler's - Philly, PA** - this handmade penn-dutch is a classic and the Reading Terminal Market where they make them fresh is one of the coolest city markets I've ever seen. **Annie's - Roseway, OR** - Classic shop with a hometown feel(i.e. same decor for 50 years) **Twister Donuts - Olympia, WA** - absolute fire! perfect raise, perfect glaze, perfect texture, and a sassy owner who's been flipping rings for 30 years. Advances to the medal round for sure. \- Super impressed with the little hole-less glazer. Great texture, glaze, and dough flavor. If you haven’t been to this Sunset Beach staple, get there soon. Leonard’s Malasadas are pretty famous and delicious so they have to be mentioned. Not a competitor for best raised glazed, but these Portuguese-origin donuts filled with Bavarian cream or dobash chocolate are super good. \- My daughter enjoyed the way this bakery took advantage of a hole, filling it with chocolate! A nice donut as well, fluffy and light. \- a really great donut, many would argue that Bosa Donuts is better. I'm not buying it. Not my favorite glazed donut, but had to pay homage to the original location (and the longest standing location) and Vernon Rudolph's contribution to spreading donut love This Salt Lake City staple has been doing it "Joan's way" since 1986. These are amazing! We can track and analyze everything. Your toothbrush tells you if you missed a spot or if you are brushing too hard. Your watch tells you to stand up or take deep breaths. Your car tells you that you brake too hard or accelerate too quickly. A device the size of a hockey puck can tell you virtually anything you ask. As a business owner, you need to be acutely aware of your finances to ensure business survival. But simply knowing how much money is coming in and out won’t help you grow into a thriving dental practice. What will help your practice thrive is getting clear on your goals and creating a plan to achieve them. Aside from providing exceptional service to your patients, you probably have other goals for your business such as revenue growth, increased profitability, more income for you as an owner, etc. But how do you achieve the goals you have for your dental practice? First, you need to get clear on what those goals are. Second, you need accurate financial information to help you achieve those goals. Think about your practice and personal goals for the next 1-5 years. Do you want to hire three new associate doctors, or add a new service that will require special equipment and training? Do you want to hire more so you can work less? These are the types of questions you should ask yourself. Once you know your goals, create a financial projection to help you figure out what you need in terms of revenue to invest in your short-term goals. This is an area that can be particularly challenging for dental practices, creating process around financial management, bookkeeping and payroll. It’s not easy to create process when your front office employees are handling patients and tending to bookkeeping and payroll needs, but it is critical that this function is handled properly. Powered flight has always fascinated me; it’s something we often take for granted but continues to be a marvel of the modern age. The four key forces necessary for powered flight are thrust, drag, lift, and weight.1 Balancing and controlling these elements are what allow a plane to travel thousands of miles and predictably arrive safely, time and time again. Surprisingly, these principles can also provide valuable insights into running a dental practice. In this article, we will explore how thrust, drag, lift, and weight can relate to patient care, reliable operations, clinical expertise, and the ideal patient profile. Thrust is the force that propels an aircraft forward and is by far the most fun of the four elements. It’s hard to deny the thrill of accelerating toward takeoff, barreling down the runway. Thrust is a practice’s ability to attract new patients and retain existing ones. While attracting new patients is crucial, converting them is essential. To harness the thrust in your practice, focus your marketing efforts to draw in the patients who fit you and your culture, and convert them into lifelong evangelists for the work you do. Many practices add thousands of dollars to their income simply by knowing who they want to treat and designing their patient care accordingly. **Key action:** Clearly define your ideal patient in writing and then share this with your team in the next morning huddle. Dentistry also has a bonus thrust element similar to a jet stream. The jet stream is a fast-flowing air current several miles above the earth. An airplane can fly faster and more effectively with a jet stream at its tail. Humanity’s constant need for care acts as a jet stream for the dental industry, making it somewhat resistant to economic highs and lows and requiring the practice to be even more specific about its ideal patient. Otherwise, you’ll have a patient base by default rather than by design. In flight, drag refers to the resistance that opposes an aircraft’s forward motion. This is the most fixed and stable force of the four. In a dental practice, poor operational systems and inefficiencies can create drag that hampers productivity and growth. Managing nonrevenue-producing tasks, such as insurance benefit checks, claims follow-up, and filling schedule gaps can consume valuable time and resources, diverting focus from patient-centric care. Your practice can effectively outsource some of these tasks so your team can focus on their maximum billable hours. But not all drag is detrimental. Just as a certain amount of drag is necessary for an aircraft to maintain stability and control, predictable systems and checklists can prevent hastiness and provide much-needed checks and balances within the dental practice. Software tools such as Dental Intelligence, Weave, and Slack can help increase effective communication within the dental team and directly with patients. By finding the sweet spot of “healthy drag,” dental practices can achieve a level of operational smoothness that enhances the overall patient experience, improves staff satisfaction, and allows for a more predictable result. **Key action:** Conduct a software check to see how your practice is using technology to maximize your billable hours. There is something uniquely special about lift. Lift, the force that allows an aircraft to rise against gravity, pushes us to new heights and provides valuable viewpoints with each climb. Lift can be compared to the clinical expertise and the culture within the dental practice. Each dental office has its own set of tools that defines how much lift it’s capable of. At the risk of sounding too touchy-feely, patients are drawn to an office that connects deeply to their clinical *and* emotional needs. Scott J. Manning, in his book *The Complete Guide to Creating a Highly Profitable Dental Practice (That You’ll Actually Enjoy)*, writes about finding the patient’s relevant emotional connection,2 where elite clinical skills are paired with patients’ clinical and emotional needs, creating a practice culture that allows them to come together with synergy and speed. **Key action:** Create a plan to adopt new technology next year that attracts your ideal patient. The final force is a direct counterbalance to an aircraft’s lift. Weight, which directly affects the balance and center of gravity of an aircraft, can be likened to various factors influencing the financial viability and practice success. The patient profile plays a significant role in determining the practice’s weight. Understanding the demographics, oral health needs, and preferences of your target patient population allows your practice to tailor its services and marketing efforts accordingly. Monitoring things like treatment acceptance rates is crucial in maintaining a healthy balance between providing optimal care and sustaining financial viability. If your goal is to become the city’s premier cosmetic dentist, you must first determine if your patient base is one that has the financial resources to afford treatment in your dental office. It’s important to strike a balance between presenting treatment options that address patients’ oral health needs and ensuring the affordability and accessibility of those treatments. If your goal is to reduce PPO-related adjustments and write-offs, you’ll first need to evaluate your procedural majority to ensure that your patients can still pay for you. (Spoiler alert: they can, and you should.) **Key action:** Run a report that shows treatment acceptance percentage by procedure to see which treatments your patient base says yes (and no) to most often.
